Snowboard Kids
Those looking for a realistic snowboarding title stay well clear as Snowboard Kids is as cute as Diddy Kong Racing and as realistic as Mario Kart 64. Developed and published by Atlus Interactive, in a nutshell this the style and power ups of Mario Kart 64 mixed with the snowboarding and environments of 1080 Snowboarding or Cool Boarders.
The game features a multi player mode where up to four players can take to the snow in furious white-knuckle multiplayer battles that will push you to the limit. Players also have the ability to earn boards on top of the selectable nine differently styled and "skilled" boards and race with five different characters including Slash, Linda, Nancy, Jam, and Tommy. Players can also take up the action in five different modes (battle race, multiplayer battle, time attack, and skill games) of play including half-pipe and nine highly distinctive tracks set over various terrains (not just snow!) and locations are also available.
Snowboard Kids also allows players to complete complex tricks, in fact over 36 of them while designers can repaint and choose from numerous designs to customize their own boards. Atlus have also managed to support rumble pak while the game's power ups are very Mario Kart 64 like but with a secondary weapon.
As a fun and unrealistic snowboarding title, Snowboard kids is a diversion from 1080 Snowboarding with this top class production expected to be a real winner with the youngsters. ~ Brad Penniment, All Game Guide

Review
With the release of Nintendo's realistic 1080 Snowboarding, Snowboard Kids offers gamers a rather different approach to snow shredding. In a nutshell, Snowboard Kids is Mario Kart on ice with the full range of cute and pretty graphics and of course silly music and effects.Visually Snowboard Kids is unbelievable using the Nintendo 64's powerful 3D hardware to amazing effect. For example the visuals here are extremely smooth even giving the popular Diddy Kong Racing a run for its money. Of course Snowboard Kids is also undeniably cute but the quality of the textures is earth shattering. Unfortunately the courses look quite sparse lacking the details of some other Nintendo 64 cute titles and the game's coloring is really quite bland for this type of game.
In terms of Audio, Snowboard Kids is what we have to come and expect from Nintendo's sound department. The music is undeniably cute but well suited to the game while the effects are right on the money. However unlike many other cute titles already released on the 64 thinking of one in particular, Snowboard Kids doesn't send older players grabbing knifes waiting for anything green with a long tongue to hop along.
As already mentioned Snowboard Kids is another cute racer not unlike Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing. However the obvious difference being that Snowboard Kids takes place mainly over snow courses. The control style is fairly simplistic as speed is gained by simply letting gravity takes it's course and the other buttons are used for jumps, tricks and the firing of weapons. Of course weapons obviously take a key role in passing the finish line before the other competitors and instruments such as frying pans and ghosts are common practice. As expected the multi player option allows for up to four players to take up the frantic competition while some features of this mode lacked in comparison to Nintendo's Mario Kart 64.
On top of this Snowboard Kids track design is superb with considerably good depth ranging from the snowy hilltops to grassy plains. There is also a number of game modes including competitions testing speed, shooting accuracy and tricks. Tricks also play a firm role in this title and the huge range of easy to execute tricks are going to be a fan with the young ones and older gamers alike.
Whether you decide the rather unoriginal Snowboard Kids is worth the purchase is up to the individual but there is no denying this is one of the better looking and playable racing titles on the market. ~ Brad Penniment, All Game Guide
