Review

What's more surprising? The fact that Sega didn't simply port their paultry side scrolling Genesis version of Jurassic Park to the Sega CD, or that this is actually a good game?

Actually, this should be called The Lost World as it is centered on a return to the island. After a helicopter crash, you become the only hope of finding and returning egg specimens from each dinosaur. And so, you're long and challenging quest begins!

Graphically, the game suffers from the systems limited color pallette making everything dark and dithered, though it, somewhat, adds to the mood of the game. Everything is viewed in a first person view and allows for a 360 degree view...well, left and right at least. Different screens and situations are accompanied by rendered cutscenes.

As you set out through this vast game you'll journey to sulfurous volcanic areas, across rivers, through the Tyrannosaur Paddock, and through most of the locales that were too expensive to incorporate into the movie.

Much puzzle solving is on hand too as you'll need to find tons of items and use them to access new areas and weapons. Ah yes, the weapons. You're journey through the island won't be a walk in the park. You'll have to bypass (or kill) the dinosaurs and humans who stand in your way and ammo is scarse making the whole experience that much more tense.

If you can get past the games limited graphics and enjoy it as a long and challenging adventure/puzzle game then I'd suggest picking up Jurassic Park. ~ Shawn Sackenheim, All Game Guide
