Jurassic Park
Welcome to Jurassic Park. Based on the mega-blockbuster movie of 1993, the game version recreates many of the movie's most action-packed scenes and brings them home to your Sega Genesis system. Actually, it does more. Not only do you get to play as the movie's paleontologist hero Grant; you're also able to be an antagonistic velociraptor.
As Grant, travel through seven levels of dinosaur-fighting action. Some of the dinosaurs and levels (i.e. Compys and the River) were not even in the movie, adding depth. But such movie favorites as raptors, spitters, brachiosaurs, and, of course, the T-Rex are all there to succumb to Grant's arsenal of darts, stun guns, rockets, and grenades.
As the raptor, players try to survive the attacks of the pesky humans that inhabit Isla Nublar. Even some of his fellow dinosaurs try to get in his way. But that's what your huge six-inch claw and razor-sharp teeth are for, right? ~ Christopher Michael Baker, All Game Guide

Review
It's only natural for the biggest blockbuster movie of 1993 to have a video game attached in its merchandising efforts. Fortunately, the adventure ahead of you in Jurassic Park won't let you down if you're a fan of the movie. Actually, it won't even let you down if you're a fan of Michael Crichton's original novel! In many ways, Jurassic Park is a typical platform game. You run around trying to avoid dinosaurs as you collect power-ups to boost your health and your arsenal. But this is a *very good* platform game! For one thing, you have the option of playing one of two different ways. You can be either Alan Grant (the paleontologist hero from the movie and book) or the Raptor trying to extinguish all the unwelcome humans on Isla Nublar.
Grant's game is, of course, more loyal to the movie and book. You go through various stages of the game that correlate with many scenes of the movie, as you end up at the Visitor's Center to fight some very tough raptors. The River stage was very impressive, mainly because it wasn't even in the movie and came straight from the book. Other aspects from the book in the game that weren't in the movie include the pterodons in this level and the compy dinosaurs, which can be found throughout the game. Fans of both the movie and book won't be disappointed.
The Raptor's game is a little bit different than the other. In this version, Grant is the ultimate enemy who must be defeated at the end. But the levels are set up about the same as in Grant's game. It's a lot of fun, too, to use that six-inch claw on anything that gets in your way. Plus, you've got a great pouncing ability, far superior to mere in humans in most games. This second game provides some further originality to Jurassic Park.
Another good thing about the game overall is the intelligence behind it. For instance, it is programmed in such a way so that the enemies will never do the same thing game after game. While they're usually in about the same place every time, they're likely to fire in a different direction or take another approach to trying to overtake you. Also, the dinosaurs act how they are supposed to act. For instance, the carnivorous spitters will attack you no matter what, while the herbivorous triceratopses will only go after you if they have good reason.
This is certainly a game that no fan of the movie and/or book should do without. It's the type of game that -- even though it is the product of movie merchandising -- is fabulous on its own. A rare find indeed. ~ Christopher Michael Baker, All Game Guide
