The General S'Election
Reportedly compiled using the results from a poll of British clubbers based on "their favourite tracks of all time," The General S'Election proves that memories are short, whether from drink or drugs or age. The first disc of two-disc set, "Dancefloor 2002," actually charts the course of only the past year, with house/trance anthems from Roger Sanchez ("Another Chance"), Kosheen ("Hide U"), Way out West ("Mindcircus"), Kings of Tomorrow ("Finally"), and Silicone Soul ("Right On!"). The second is the real "classics" disc, with a chronological one-every-year selection stretching from 1990 to 2000 (with two each for 1998 and 1999). This disc is done pretty well, including acknowledged masterpieces like Moby's "Go," Leftfield's "Not Forgotten," Orbital's "Lush 3-1," Faithless' "God Is a DJ," and Hybrid's "Finished Symphony." Overall, it's an odd compilation that attempts to lure in the dance classicist as well as the pop song hunter, and remarkably succeeds at both. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
