EA DICE
Many of the first games produced by Stockholm, Sweden-based developer {@Digital Illusions CE} ("{@DICE}") were based on generic motor sports or licensed intellectual properties, but the studio came into its own with its original {*Battlefield 1942}. The fast-paced online shooter was a critical and financial success, and spawned several sequels and spin-offs.
Following {*Battlefield 1942}'s release the game's publisher, {@Electronic Arts}, demonstrated an interest in acquiring the independent studio, and formally announced this intention in December, 2004. By March 2006, {@EA} owned a majority of shares, and in October of that year, announced it had completed the buyout, and that the studio had been renamed "{@EA DICE}." ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide
