Details'House and Home' is a ground-breaking, 5,500-square-foot exhibition that will examine the full sweep of American domestic architecture, from the Native American dwellings first encountered by European explorers to the computer-aided "smart" houses of tomorrow. The exhibition will examine the process of imagining and shaping the varied forms of the American dwelling and will survey the country's expansive range of residential building types-from Monticello to the mobile home. Set within the context of evolving artistic, technological and societal issues, 'House and Home' will examine how change is reflected in domestic building endeavors and will discuss the roles of such wide-ranging phenomenon as the enduring allure of the Colonial Revival style, the efficiency of balloon frame construction and the inequities of segregated housing.
